Napoleon Pastry or in French Mille-Feuille is made of three layers of puff pastry with two layers of pastry cream. It is usually filled with whipped cream, pastry cream, and fruit preserves such as raspberry jam.

The top pastry layer is dusted with confectioner’s sugar, and sometimes cocoa, pastry crumbs, or pulverized seeds. It is thought that Napoleon has originated in Naples in Italy where it is called Mille Foglie meaning thousand leaves and contains layers of cream, pastry cream, and fruit preserves.

A traditional napoleon is filled with plain pastry cream but you may add a thin layer of fruit preserves such as seedless raspberry or strawberry jam or preserves to the filling
